About Newton
Newton is a blockchain network identified by chain ID 1012. It utilizes Newton (NEW) as its native token, which is divisible up to 18 decimal places. The network is designed to support decentralized applications (dApps) and services, with a focus on creating a community-driven ecosystem.
The Newton Project was launched in 2018 with the goal of building infrastructure for the community economy. In January 2025, it transitioned to a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), allowing all NEW token holders to participate in governance decisions. This shift reflects the project's commitment to decentralization and community-driven development.
The Newton network employs a multi-layer blockchain architecture called NewChain, designed to handle high transaction volumes while maintaining security and decentralization. It uses a hybrid consensus mechanism combining Proof of Stake (PoS) and Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) to ensure network stability and efficient transaction processing. In February 2025, the Newton Project rebranded as AB to reflect its new direction and purpose, focusing on building infrastructure for heterogeneous blockchains and assets. This rebranding signifies a strategic shift toward creating a rich ecosystem of applications that address real-world needs.
