Monad Testnet is a public test network for the Monad blockchain, launched on February 19, 2025. Monad is a high-performance, Ethereum-compatible Layer-1 blockchain designed to achieve 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) with sub-second finality. It utilizes innovations such as MonadBFT, parallel execution, and MonadDb to enhance scalability and efficiency.
The Monad Testnet serves as a testing environment for developers and users to experiment with the platform's features before the mainnet launch. It supports various Ethereum developer tools and infrastructure providers, facilitating seamless application deployment. The testnet is fully compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) bytecode, allowing developers to port existing Ethereum applications without significant modifications.
Key features of Monad include 0.5-second block times, 1-second single-slot finality, and near-zero gas fees. The network is designed to run on consumer-grade hardware, promoting decentralization and accessibility. Validators are required to have 32GB RAM, 2x 2TB SSDs, 300 Mbps bandwidth, and a 16-core 4.5 GHz processor, with an estimated hardware cost of approximately $1,500.
The Monad Testnet has demonstrated impressive performance metrics, including over 2.44 billion successful transactions processed with a 98% success rate, more than 34 million smart contracts deployed by approximately 3 million creators, and a peak activity of 34 million transactions per day in early August 2025. The network maintains an average gas fee of $0.004-$0.007 per transaction, even during peak activity periods.
