Shibarium is a Layer 2 blockchain solution developed by the Shiba Inu community to enhance the scalability and efficiency of the Ethereum network. Launched in August 2023, it processes transactions off-chain, reducing fees and increasing transaction speeds.
The network utilizes Bone ShibaSwap (BONE) as its native currency, serving both as a gas token for transactions and as a governance token within the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
Shibarium's architecture is based on a multi-layered Proof-of-Stake (PoS) model, comprising the Heimdall and Bor layers. Heimdall manages validator sets and produces checkpoints, while Bor handles block production and transaction finality. This design ensures high throughput and low fees, supporting the development of decentralized applications (dApps) and other services within the Shiba Inu ecosystem.
Since its mainnet launch, Shibarium has processed over 600 million transactions and surpassed 2 million addresses, indicating significant adoption and growth within its community.
