About Flare Mainnet
Flare Mainnet is a Layer-1 blockchain identified by chain ID 14, utilizing the native token Flare (FLR) with 18 decimal places. Launched in July 2022, Flare is an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible platform designed to enhance interoperability by enabling smart contract functionality on non-smart contract blockchains. Its primary goal is to provide decentralized access to high-integrity data from other chains and the internet.
The network employs a unique consensus mechanism that combines Avalanche Consensus with a Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA) model, offering scalability, security, and decentralization. Validators participate in consensus voting and are randomly selected as leaders to propose new blocks, weighted by their total stake. FLR serves multiple purposes, including transaction fees, network security through staking, governance participation, and incentivizing data providers within the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO).
Flare achieves interoperability through two core protocols: the State Connector and the FTSO. The State Connector enables decentralized consensus on the state of external blockchains, while the FTSO is a decentralized oracle for time series data. These protocols allow applications that use off-chain data to be built and secured by the network.
Flare's ecosystem supports various applications, including decentralized finance (DeFi), cross-chain asset utilization, NFT platforms, and data-driven decentralized applications, unlocking liquidity and functionality across multiple blockchains.
