Sonic Mainnet is an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible Layer 1 blockchain network, launched in December 2024 by the team behind Fantom. It is designed to provide high-performance infrastructure for decentralized applications (DApps), supporting up to 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) with sub-second finality.
The native token of the Sonic Mainnet is S, which is used for transaction fees, staking, running validators, and participating in governance. Existing Fantom (FTM) holders can upgrade their tokens to S on a 1:1 basis through the MySonic portal.
Sonic Mainnet offers several incentive programs to support developers and users. The Fee Monetization (FeeM) model allows developers to earn up to 90% of the network fees generated by their applications. Additionally, the Innovator Fund provides up to 200 million S tokens to onboard new applications and support new ventures. An airdrop program distributes approximately 190.5 million S tokens to early adopters and developers, incentivizing ecosystem growth and user engagement.
The network also features the Sonic Gateway, a decentralized bridge that ensures secure, seamless cross-chain interoperability with Ethereum. This gateway supports batch transfers, instant bridging via the "Fast Channel," and validator-operated decentralization, facilitating efficient asset transfers between Sonic and Ethereum.
