About Songbird Canary-Network
Songbird is the canary network for the Flare blockchain, launched in September 2021. It serves as a live testing environment, allowing developers to trial features like FAssets and Flare Data Connector before deployment on the main Flare network. This approach enables real-world testing of new functionalities in a decentralized setting.
Operating as a Layer 1 blockchain, Songbird utilizes a Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA) consensus mechanism, similar to the XRP Ledger, ensuring efficient and secure transaction processing. The network is compatible with Ethereum-based decentralized applications (dApps), facilitating seamless integration and development.
The native token, Songbird (SGB), is used for network governance, transaction fees, and staking rewards. Holders can participate in protocol upgrades and earn rewards by delegating their tokens to validators.
Songbird's role as a canary network allows it to test and refine features under real economic conditions, providing valuable insights and stability before these features are introduced to the main Flare network.
