About Kroma
Kroma is a Layer 2 blockchain solution designed to enhance Ethereum's scalability, focusing on the Web3 gaming sector. Launched in September 2023 by Lightscale, a subsidiary of the South Korean game development company Wemade, Kroma aims to provide a high-throughput, low-cost environment for decentralized applications.
Operating as an Optimistic Rollup with Zero-Knowledge fault proofs, Kroma combines elements of both rollup technologies to offer fast finality while maintaining Ethereum compatibility. The network utilizes a zkEVM based on technology from Scroll for its fault-proof system, with plans to transition to a full ZK Rollup as ZK proof generation becomes more efficient.
Kroma's native token, KRO, is central to its ecosystem, used for staking, paying gas fees, and governance. The network has secured Series A funding from a diverse group of investors to support its infrastructure and development.
In June 2024, Kroma integrated into the Superchain, a network of chains built on Optimism's open-source standard codebase, to broaden game-based DApp adoption and enable developers to build and deploy applications more efficiently across different layers.
