About Hemi
Hemi is a modular Layer-2 blockchain network that integrates Bitcoin and Ethereum to enhance scalability, security, and interoperability. Founded by early Bitcoin developer Jeff Garzik and blockchain security expert Max Sanchez, Hemi aims to unify these two major blockchains into a cohesive supernetwork.
The network's core components include the Hemi Virtual Machine (hVM), which incorporates a full Bitcoin node within an Ethereum Virtual Machine, allowing developers to build decentralized applications that interact with both Bitcoin and Ethereum. Additionally, the Hemi Bitcoin Kit (hBK) provides smart contract libraries to facilitate the development of Bitcoin-native applications.
Hemi employs a unique Proof-of-Proof (PoP) consensus mechanism to inherit Bitcoin's security, achieving "superfinality" in just a few hours. This design enables trustless cross-chain asset transfers and supports the creation of Bitcoin-secured chains, enhancing the network's scalability and security.
The native currency of the Hemi network is Ether (ETH), with 18 decimal places. Developers can interact with the network through various RPC endpoints. For monitoring and exploring the blockchain, Hemi provides a Blockscout explorer.
