About Scroll
Scroll is a Layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, utilizing zero-knowledge (zk) proof technology to enhance scalability and security. It is an EVM-equivalent zk-rollup, designed to be closely aligned with Ethereum's architecture, allowing existing Ethereum smart contracts to operate on Scroll without modification. This compatibility facilitates seamless migration of decentralized applications from Ethereum to Scroll.
The Scroll network comprises three main components: Scroll Nodes, which include the Sequencer, Coordinator, and Relayer, responsible for processing transactions into blocks and committing them to the Ethereum mainnet; the Roller Network, a network of provers tasked with generating validity proofs for the blocks produced; and Rollup and Bridge Contracts, which are smart contracts that link the Scroll chain and the Ethereum mainnet, ensuring data availability for transactions on Scroll.
Scroll launched its mainnet on October 10, 2023, following a pre-alpha testnet in July 2022. The network has since attracted significant attention, with over $748 million in total value locked, making it one of the largest Ethereum Layer-2 solutions by total value locked.
The native currency of the Scroll network is Ether (ETH), which has 18 decimal places. Developers can interact with the network through various RPC endpoints. For transaction tracking and network analytics, users can utilize the Scrollscan block explorer.
