About SagaEVM
SagaEVM is a blockchain network identified by chain ID 5464, developed by Saga. It operates as a gasless Ethereum-compatible environment, offering faster speeds, lower costs, and horizontal scalability through Chainlets. The native currency of SagaEVM is GAS (GAS), with 18 decimal places.
SagaEVM is designed to support decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, enabling activities such as bridging assets, minting tokens, yield farming, and deploying decentralized applications (dApps). The network aims to provide a seamless experience for developers and users by integrating native liquidity infrastructure, real-time automation, and application-layer rewards.
In January 2026, SagaEVM experienced a security incident resulting in the unauthorized withdrawal of approximately $7 million in cryptocurrency assets. Following the exploit, the network was temporarily paused to facilitate investigation and recovery efforts. The Saga team identified the exploiter's wallet and coordinated with crypto exchanges and bridge operators to mitigate further risks and work towards returning the stolen funds.
Despite the incident, the broader Saga network infrastructure, including the mainnet and other chainlets, remained unaffected. The SagaEVM chain was paused at block height 6,593,800, and the team emphasized that the core mechanics of the blockchain, such as consensus and validator operations, continued to function as intended.
